To save the potato from being dissolved: Sometimes the potatoes melt while cooking. Cut the potatoes in slices, apply salt and keep for ten minutes. Wash and cook, the potatoes will not melt.

The recipe to cook whole black pulse: Clean the whole black pulse, spread on a neat place on the ground and rub lightly with a large stone. It will peel off some red pulse as well, but be careful not to over-peel. Now shake the pulse, wash it and soak in water for fifteen minutes before cooking. Cook it on light fire, pulses and grams taste well if cooked in a clay pot.

To cook rice:

  1. Soak the stored rice in water for at least fifteen minutes before cooking so that it cooks well.
  2. Measure the rice for cooking; ensure two cups of water for one cup of rice.
  3. If you are cooking zardah, put cold water in the rice immediately after dropping the hot water, it helps avoid stickiness.
  4. If you do not have onion to cook rice, fry a little bit of sugar in oil until it turns red, add water and spices. The cooked rice will be brown in color and sweet in taste.
  5. While cooking spicy rice, add one teaspoon vinegar to enhance the rice color.
  6. To refresh the stale rice, sprinkle some water on the rice and heat on low fire. For plain rice, boil water, keep the stale rice in the water for two minutes then drop the water and heat the rice on low fire.

To remove the mud stains:

  1. If a warm cloth gets mud stains, mix one mashed potato in half kg cool water and sieve this water. Wash the stained cloth with this solution.
  2. Rub a potato slice on the stained part.
  3. Remove the mud, apply petrol to the stained cloth and keep it in the sun.
  4. Remove the mud when it gets dry and wash the cloth with vinegar and hot water.

Cabbage: Eating raw cabbage is also beneficial. It is very useful for sugar patients. While eating as salad, cut the cabbage right before eating otherwise its vitamin c dissolves in the ear. Wash it before cutting else its vitamins are washed with the water. Eating cabbage treats the diseases caused due to blood infection.

Salad leaves or green coriander: Both the vegetables are very useful but delicate. If it is difficult to bring these vegetables daily from bazar, fill a jug or glass with water and put the salad leaves and coriander in this water. It will keep them fresh for four days. Take as much salad leaves as you need daily from this water. Do not refrigerate salad or coriander leaves in plastic sheet rather wrap them in a paper envelop or newspaper. Vegetables remain fresh for long time if wrapped in newspaper to refrigerate. Even if you keep the vegetables out of the refrigerator, sprinkle water on them and wrap in the newspaper.

To sweeten the guavas: If a guava tree does not bear sweet fruit, dig a hole near its root and put some old crushed molasses in the hole. Try this tip before the tree bears flowers. Some people also drop goat blood in the tree roots while sacrificing. Putting a little bit of molasses every year sweetens the fruit.

A useful mouthwash prepared with clove: Mouthwashes are often beneficial and easy to use especially when there is no Miswaak or toothbrush. Take some water (its better if it is lukewarm); add a little bit of salt and two to three ground cinnamon in it. Using it as mouthwash increases the saliva in the mouth which itself is helpful in cleaning.

The miracles of garlic and honey: Garlic is an antibiotic while honey is an antiseptic. If both are used together, it is an excellent tonic, antibiotic and antiseptic. It is a medicinal treatment to strengthen the physical system and restore the health. Garlic and honey is basically a multi-functional medicine which is useful to cure many diseases and is essential for every home. Use good quality garlic and pure honey to make this medicine.

How to make: Take two garlics and 1kg honey. Peel off the garlic, wash and dry it. Finely chop the peeled garlic and then pestle it in the mortar (made of china clay). The components in the fresh garlic are separate from each other, pestling the garlic combines its components. Add two table spoon honey in the garlic and keep crushing until the whole garlic is crushed and then put the all the honey in it. Mix well and keep it in a glass bottle, cap it and label day, date and month on it.

Dosage: Take half teaspoon daily as a tonic.

For treatment:

In special case, take half teaspoons six times a day and in normal condition, take half tea spoon three times a day. This tonic can be used as it is or you can use it with lemon, water, milk with other herbs and vinegar. It can be applied directly on insect bite, wound or friction. It can also be used as skin moisturizer by adding 120ml water in one tea spoon tonic.
